The American Wirehair is not a crossbreed of cats, but a domestic cat breed that originated in New York. This sweet cat results from a spontaneous natural mutation, which gives it a thick, matted coat similar to sheep's wool or steel wool. These wrinkle-whiskered cats are hardy and also have a long life expectancy.
